I take these notes during various tasting opportunities that come my way. I won’t usually include general information as this is available on the internet.

  • Barolo Dinner

I tasted these at a recent Wine Enthusiasts’ dinner in Canberra organised by David Yeates. All were cork-sealed. All had developed the classic sweet/savoury perfume of maturing or mature Barolo.

    Barolo

2015 Societa Agricola Trediberri 14.0% Subtle red plum. Youthful. Balanced tannins and quite soft.
2014 G.D. Vajra Albe 13.5% Dense dark fruits. Full body. Very structured, with firm balanced tannins.
2014 Michele Reverdito 14.0% Light fragrance. Supple start in mouth, but distinct tannins.
2010 Paolo Scavino 14.0% Very perfumed, classic. Firm, with powerful structure. Potential!

    La Morra

2016 Cordero di Montezemolo Monfalletto 14.5% Distinctly perfumed. Good flesh and fine tannins.
2014 Rocche Costamagna Rocche dell’ Annunziata 14.0% Still quite closed on nose. Red fruits, full flavour. More accessible, soft tannins.
2013 Voerzio Martini La Serra 14% Great concentration. Hint of chocolate. Powerful. Excellent depth and length.
2013 Ellena Giuseppe Ascheri 14.5% Curiously meaty, with perfume. Firm, lacking generosity. A little hollow.

    Monforte d’Alba

2016 Piero Benevelli Mosconi 14.5% Cardamom and spice aromatics. Excellent rich flavours. Great power, depth and balance.
2008 Elio Grasso Ginestra Casa Mate 15.0% Dense and very ripe. Chocolate. Highly structured, but balanced.
2008 Domenico Clerico Pajana 14.5% Fragrant, forest floor, savoury. Great power and structure.
2008 Mauro Veglio Castelletto 14.5% The cork failed it.
